Exes & Oh's

Posted on: 2007-11-04

No, not that kind of 'oh'!  I feel that every person has experienced that moment of clarity and realization about their ex - that "oh" moment when you realize that the person you thought you knew and adored is totally wrong for you.  I was with a friend yesterday when she received a letter from an ex that confirmed the fact that their breakup a few months ago was the right move.  He sent her a demeaning letter requesting that they still communicate, but stipulated conditions and requests she'd have to meet before he would talk to her on the phone.

That got me thinking about previous relationships.  For me, it's really hard to get over someone.  But I've definitely had a few 'oh' moments that completely changed my life, allowing me to move on to bigger and better things.  Have you had any 'oh' moments?  Share in the comments section!  I want to hear what it took to convince you that your ex-mate was not your soul-mate.

new places, new people

Get out there and meet someone!

I recently moved across the country, thousands of miles away from everyone I ever knew or loved.  At first, I struggled to get adjusted to my new life - it was totally bizarre for me to not have multiple plans for a Friday night or have dozens of different options to choose from.  Before, my plans always worked themselves out - friends would call or text their plans and I would pick the one that sounded best at the time.  Now, going out requires EFFORT!

Not only did I not know anyone, but I also threw myself into work for the first couple of months here.  I rarely ever went out or did anything fun.  I was miserable!  Then I realized that people weren't going to come to me - I had to go to them!  Since then, I've made the effort to reach out to co-workers and neighbors, and involve myself in some local groups.  The more people you meet, the larger network you'll have, and it's my opinion that network size is directly proportional to the amount of FUN in your life :)

So go for it - take the initiative and go out there and start mixing it up!  Take a chance and introduce yourself to the coffee house cutie or the bookstore babe.  Go out with your co-workers for a drink or join a sports club.  Put yourself out there, and you'll be rewarded with good times, and good friends!

with love and aloha

Although I'm a born-and-raised Midwesterner, I currently live in the Aloha State!  Since I moved here a few months ago, I have been amazed by the spirit of aloha. I have a lot of different interests and passions, but one of the biggest is learning about people and what makes them tick.  In college, I studied psychology and I'm very interested in technology and healthcare, but I also love reading, writing, and creativity in general.  I love my current job working with children who have special needs and I am also a student at a university here, working on my master's.  I would love to get to know you and talk - I love meeting new people!
